Abstract
In this paper, the handling of different product family generations is methodically supported. In order to prepare low internal complexity for offering future product variants, Design for Variety and modularisation approaches are used to build a MDM matrix framework to structure two product family generations based and demonstrated on a real development case. The activities are assisted by means of graph analysis software to obtain change propagation paths and SysML to ensure data consistency and track changes respectively.
