Abstract
In this paper we consider designing for societal goals and analyze it in the broader context of guiding technology development towards socially desirable directions. We argue that design research can contribute to this designing in a double way: by creating methods for design for societal goals, and by giving tools for anticipatory technology development that widens the possibilities for future design for societal goals.
