Abstract
Products are developed in generations and based on references which come from predecessors, competitors, research, and even industry-external products. The model of PGE describes these relationships. The purpose of this contribution is to analyze the potential of the transfer of evolutionary principles to PGE. We analyzed the analogies between biological evolution and PGE, and compared evolutionary approaches in design research. Research based on the model of PGE and evolutionary principles could explain relationships between innovation pressure, context factors, and variation activities.
